China Paper-cutting Museum

It was established by Qin Shijiao who is from a paper-cutting family, which collects and sorts out the paper-cutting works from generation to generation, aiming to develop the theoretical research and creation of paper-cutting and promote national paper-cutting culture.
The museum has a collection room, four showrooms and a studio. There are more than 10,000 paper-cut works, including 360 paper-cut monographs published over the years, nearly 10,000 pieces folk and modern paper-cutting works from more than 20 provinces and cities, and a number of extremely valuable materials.
The four showrooms display the works of Qin Shijiao's paper-cutting family, the original paper-cutting works of Wangcheng District, the representative works of Xiang-Chu paper-cutting and the introduction of paper-cutting respectively. The last showroom provides an overview of paper-cutting, allowing visitors to know about the different characteristics of paper-cutting across the country.

Qin Shijiao, founder of the museum, was born in a paper-cutting family at Wangcheng in 1938. He began to learn paper-cutting from his parents and aunt as a primary school student. Up to now, he has created tens of thousands of paper-cutting works, and won the lifetime achievement award of Chinese Folk Craft Committee. As the inheritor of the provincial-level intangible culture heritage, Qin Shijiao has published many papers and 30 books.
