Shuangfeng Village of Tujia ethnic group in Xiangxi

Situated on the top of the mountain, the whole village is 600 meters above the sea level, with paddy fields at the foot of the mountain and bamboo baskets as the only farming tool. There are 85 households in the village with a population of more than 300, most of whom are surnamed Tian and Peng.
Villagers make a living by growing rice and have clearly assigned roles. Generally, men are responsible for farming while women for transit with baskets. All the houses in the village are made of wood and firepits are set in the wing rooms. Utensils and authentic Tujia smoked bacon show the signs of age and life everywhere.
The Baishou Hall as well as its front courtyard at the entrance of the village is regarded as a gathering venue for festival entertainment and landmark building of the Tujia culture. Every year the whole village will immerse in the sea of joy with resonant horn and Hand-waving Dance on the day of Sheba Festival. It usually falls on the 3rd to 15th day of the first lunar month, the 3rd of March or the 6th of June.
