Chengtoushan National Archaeological Site Park wins another provincial title

Recently, Chengtoushan National Archaeological Site Park in Lixian County of Changde City was listed among Hunan Popular Science Education Bases from 2022 to 2027.
As a national 4A scenic area, Chengtoushan National Archaeological Site Park is built on the basis of Chengtoushan Ancient City Site, a national key cultural relics protection unit. The park covers an area of more than 1,000 mu (about 66.67 hectares) and a north-south axis of about 2.5 kilometers. There are eight major scenic spots, including the painted garden, museum and the ancient city ruins. The park was completed and opened in 2015, and has received over 3 million tourists all over the world.

Chengtoushan Site
Chengtoushan Site, with a history of more than 6,000 years, is the earliest ancient city ruins found in China so far. The site was discovered in 1979, where over 16,000 cultural artifacts were unearthed during more than 10 excavations. The earliest (6,500 years ago) and well-preserved paddy in the world and the earliest large altar in China were found in the site.
The site was chosen as one of the Top 10 New Archaeological Discoveries of 1992 and 1997 respectively, and 100 Major Archaeological Discoveries in the 20th Century in China in 2001.
It’s one of the 150 major sites under national-level protection. In 2005, the special stamp “Chengtoushan Site” was issued. At the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the large model of “Chengtoushan—the earliest city in China” was displayed as the “first scene” of the China Pavilion, which made a big difference at home and abroad.

Chengtoushan Site Museum
Chengtoushan Site Museum covers an area of 100 mu (about 6.67 hectares) with the main exhibition hall, sub exhibition hall, temporary exhibition hall, etc.
Once completed, Liyang Plain National Preserved Cultural Relics Exhibition Base will integrate the general history exhibition, intangible cultural heritage exhibition, folk cultural relics exhibition, etc. It will showcase 16 key cultural relics units under national-level protection, 40 intangible cultural heritage at the national, provincial, municipal and county levels, all-for-one tourism of Lixian County, etc.
Chengtoushan is striving to develop into a national 5A scenic area, national famous farming cultural and tourist experience base, unique study and practice base as well as centralized museum for national cultural relics in Liyang Plain.
