As the most important traditional residential building form in the village, the stilted buildings account for 61% of the construction area of the village. The buildings are mainly wood railing frame architecture, which is not only convenient for raising livestock, but also boasts practical functions such as moisture-proof. There are several historical dynasties of the stilted building complex, which are still well preserved. The stilted buildings not only have a long history, but also present various architectural styles. In Pantang Village alone, there are several styles of stilted buildings, which carry profound historical and cultural heritage and tell the changes of time over thousands of years.
When it comes to the scenery around Pantang Village, the most famous attraction is Feitan Waterfall, whose drop is as high as 71 meters, even exceeding that of Huangguoshu Waterfall. Feitan Waterfall overhangs the cliffs and makes a shocking roar, which is a spectacle. Even in the driest season, the water of the waterfall never runs out, nourishing both sides of the river with its breadth and depth. Thus people living along the riverside have been farming and thriving.
Pantang Village abounds in folk culture forms like Yang Opera and Nuo Opera, among which Yang Opera is the most famous and deeply loved by people. Every year during the Spring Festival, from the 1st day of the first lunar month to the 15th day, the villagers gather together to perform Yang Opera and dragon lantern dance, and share the peaceful and festive farm life. Furthermore, there are other characteristic customs in Yuanguping area including Kujia (which refers to the crying ceremony for the bride when she is married, mainly to thank her parents and elders for their nurturing grace and the care of her brothers and sisters).
As time goes on, many buildings in Pantang Village have been damaged and aged. In order to further preserve these cultural relics and sites, the authorities of Yongding District organized special personnel to protect and repair the ancient buildings in the village.
This ancient village enjoying the beautiful scenery quietly lies at Yuanguping Town. These exquisite buildings silently stand here and present profound ancient culture.
