In the scenic area, the Chuanshan Cultural Exhibition Hall, which features Ming and Qing architectural styles, fully presents the life experiences of Wang Chuanshan, known as the “Eastern Hegel” with rich exhibits.
“The Chuanshan theory not only occupies an important position in the development history of traditional Chinese culture, but is also extremely significant for Hunan culture. He wrote many books and theories, conveying a concept that study of ancient classics should meet present needs,” said He Yao, a guide at the Chuanshan Cultural Exhibition Hall.
Going down the mountain from the cultural exhibition hall and passing through a lush lotus pond, one can arrive at Xiangxi Thatched Cottage, the former residence of Wang Chuanshan, which is tucked away in a thick bamboo forest.
“Wang Chuanshan lived in this village for 32 years, with 17 of his later years spent in this Xiangxi Thatched Cottage,” said Huang Zhaoliang, director of Wang Chuanshan’s former residence management office. Xiangxi Thatched Cottage was first built in the 14th year of Emperor Kangxi’s reign (1675) in the Qing Dynasty.
“Wang Chuanshan was one of the three great ideologists of the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, but he was also a sage known by few people due to his seclusion. His works were discovered after 200 years. He worked tirelessly to revive national culture until his old age,” said Huang Zhaoliang.
To better inherit traditional culture, the scenic area holds activities on Wang Chuanshan’s birthday every year.
“In recent years, the number of tourists received has also increased year by year. This year, we have received over 150,000 tourists. Now, with a history of more than 400 years, the Chuanshan culture is carried forward among an increasing number of people,” said Huang Zhaoliang.
