26th Hunan (Nanshan) ‘Liuyueliu’ Folk Song Festival kicks off

Through various forms such as the folk song show, the performance show, and the drumming challenge show, the festival attracted all people across the county. Foreign friends also sang folk songs, bringing a unique, cross-regional, and cultural folk song feast.
In recent years, based on its profound historical and cultural heritage, Chengbu County has made efforts to promote the integrated development of culture, tourism, agriculture and other industries. It has promoted its characteristic cultural brands and cultural tourism resources through the “Liuyueliu” Folk Song Festival.
The festival, originating in the mid-Qing Dynasty, has a history of more than 300 years. In the past, the Miao people liked to convey emotions and ideas in their work and life through folk songs. Folk songs gradually evolved into a festive activity with distinct ethnic characteristics.
In 2014, Hunan (Nanshan) “Liuyueliu” Folk Song Festival became one of the four major folk festival brands in Hunan Province and was included in the fourth batch of national public cultural service system demonstration projects. It was granted the China Excellent Contemporary Festival Award and the China Excellent Festival Award to commemorate the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up.

The festival has been held for 26 sessions so far. Chengbu has driven cultural tourism through characteristic activities to enhance tourism attractiveness and competitiveness, injecting strong impetus into the high-quality economic development.
From January to June 2024, it received 2.939 million domestic and foreign tourists, an increase of 17.6%, and achieved a comprehensive tourism revenue of 2.98 billion yuan, up 18.25%, adding new momentum and vitality to the development of the county’s cultural and tourism industry.
