The dyeing of blue calico is all done by hand with complicated craft, going through more than 10 steps in the production process. It has two kinds of pure blue calico and color-ed blue calico. The former is generally used to make clothes and kerchiefs without patterns, and the latter is generally used to make quilt covers, pad sheets, curtains and tablecloths, etc.
Blue calico has simple patterns with fine dots and lines. Most of its patterns are based on folk tales and traditional auspicious patterns to show the pursuit of a better life.
