Changde High-pitched Tune and its inheritor Gong Jinyun

With more than 30 basic tunes and over 70 qupai tunes, Changde High-pitched Tune is diversified in its singing forms including Gunchang and vocal accompaniment. The latter can be further divided into accompaniment by people or by musical instrument. The tune, integrated with local dialect and a large amount of local music, is remarkably expressive.

Changde High-pitched Tune emphasizes the training of basic performance skills. It develops special performance paradigms from daily life to simulate the movements of birds and animals or other dynamic objects apart from a set of expressive actions. The performances often produce fascinating results by means of some wonderful special effects.

Gong Jinyun, born in 1944, Han ethnic group, has deep and resonant voice with mellow and changeable timbre, which not only benefits her in singing beautifully and skillfully in Changde Han Opera but also helps her to enunciate clearly and pronounce accurately. Gong Jinyun inherits the traditional skills of Changde High-pitched Tune and makes some innovation according to her own conditions, especially the lateral sound with resonance, successfully creating many distinctive character images.
