Shen Yanxi receives Best ICH ‘Cultural and Creative’ Award

During the festival, the 2nd “Golden Needle Cup” Chinese Traditional Embroidery Competition took place. Shen Yanxi, a representative inheritor of Huayao Cross-stitch from Longhui County, won the Best ICH “Cultural and Creative” Award with her exquisite skills and unique creativity.
Huayao Cross-stitch originated from the Han Dynasty and is mainly reflected in women’s clothing, particularly the tube skirt. Its creation is distinct from many other forms of embroidery and has its own unique style.
Without patterns or molds, Huayao women rely solely on their nimble hands and intelligent minds to embroider on plain cloth. The threads are well-balanced, and the colors are vibrant, creating a strong visual impact and strict symmetry.
Shen Yanxi’s work, “Tiger,” presents the delicate beauty of flowers and the majestic presence of the tiger in the embroidered artwork, symbolizing goodness, auspiciousness and prosperity.
At this art festival, Huayao Cross-stitch and other embroidery works showcased the profound traditional Chinese culture.
