Hunan Martyrs Memorial Tower

The Hunan Martyrs Memorial Tower was built by the Hunan Provincial People’s Government in the 1950s to commemorate the revolutionary martyrs from Hunan who have sacrificed their lives for national rejuvenation and people’s happiness in the past 100 years, especially since the New Democratic Revolution. For more than 60 years, the memorial tower has become a spiritual symbol in the minds of generations of Changsha people.


Located at the intersection of the central axis of the south gate and the west gate of the Hunan Martyrs Park, the whole building is 58.7 meters high. Including the tower body and the hall at the bottom, it is built with 2,932 granite blocks. It looks simple but quite majestic. On the surface of the tower there is a 20-meter-high white marble monument inscribed by Chairman Mao Zedong in 1959. In the memorial hall there are two exhibition rooms displaying the portraits, relics and directories of martyrs from Hunan Province.
