Former Residence of Xie Juezai

Xie Juezai (April 27, 1884—June 15, 1971), born in Ningxiang, Hunan Province, joined the Communist Party of China in 1925. Known as one of the five senior party members in Yan’an and one of the four senior party members in Long March, he is an eminent jurist and educator, outstanding social activist as well as one of the founders of China’s judicial system. Xie Juezai once held several senior posts in the central government.

The Former Residence of Xie Juezai is located at Duizi Village, Shatian Town, Ningxiang City, Changsha City.

Built in 1821, the residence faces west and is encircled by walls. There are collections of manuscripts, diaries and daily articles left by Xie Juezai on display.
It was listed as a key cultural site under national-level protection in 2013 and included in the fifth batch of provincial patriotism education bases in March, 2020.
