Japan announced its unconditional surrender on August 15, 1945. From August 21 to 23 in 1945 , a Japanese envoy declared their unconditional surrender to the Chinese people in Zhijiang, an occasion historically known as the “acceptance of Japan’s surrender in Zhijiang”.
In order to commemorate this event, the Government of the Republic of China began to build a memorial arch for the surrender in Zhijiang in 1946. In 1995, a two-story memorial hall was built at the right back of the memorial arch to mark the 50th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

With a construction area of 1,500 square meters and the unique architecture style, the whole exhibition hall includes four theme exhibitions—“numerous crimes of Japanese aggressors”, “the War of Resistance Aggainst Japanese Aggression”, “acceptance of Japan’s surrender in Zhijiang” and “remembering the history to better cherish peace”.

The memorial hall displays 436 precious cultural relics, 625 photos and 43 weapons of the Second World War through high-technology. It is known as a window for the Victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the Acceptance of the Japanese Surrender.
