Li Bai’s Former Residence

Li Bai’s Former Residence is located in Banxi Village, Zhangfang Town, Liuyang City, Changsha City. The former residence was built in the 12th year of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty. It’s a courtyard with civil structure.
In 2010, with the support from Li Bai’s relatives, the local government of Zhangfang Town and the people in his hometown, the former residence was restored as it was. There are 16 large and small rooms, with a building area of more than 800 square meters and a floor area of over 2,000 square meters. The former residence was restored for display and an exhibition room was set up for the life stories of Martyr Li Bai. In the same year, it was opened to the public.

Li Bai, formerly named Li Huachu, was born in Liuyang City in 1910. He is a member of the Communist Party of China and liaison officer of Shanghai underground Party. Li Bai joined the Communist Party of China in 1925, and participated in the Autumn Harvest Uprising on the Hunan-Jiangxi border areas in 1927. He joined the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army in August 1930, and became a soldier in the communication company of the fourth corps of the Red Army. Later he served as instructor of the communication company.
In 1937, Li Bai was dispatched by the Party Central Committee to build a secret radio station in Shanghai. He was brave enough to overcame all kinds of difficulties.

He insisted on fighting in the secret intelligence front line of the Party, and transmitted important military as well as political information to the Party Central Committee in time, making outstanding contributions to the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation.
He was unswerving in the face of torture when arrested by the enemies. On May 7, 1949, he was secretly killed by the Kuomintang reactionaries at the age of 39. On September 14, 2009, he was rated as one of the 100 heroes and models who made outstanding contributions to the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
