“My two children have been married and both bought houses in the city. I work in the “Red Army Kitchen” restaurant. Though the salary is not much, it is enough for my living.” Peng Yuansheng is very satisfied with his current life.
In 2018, when the “Red Army Experience Camp” was planned to be built in Xinyang Village, Peng Yuansheng’s old house was transformed into a characteristic restaurant of “Red Army Kitchen” .
“The business was booming in the first days after its opening.” The bustling scene at that time still made Peng Yuansheng excited. In addition to getting the rent every year, Peng Yuansheng also works in the restaurant, planting vegetables and cleaning the houses, which can bring him an annual net income of more than 20,000 yuan.

In recent years, with the support of the local government and the assistance teams, Xinyang Village has become a famous “star village” by developing red tourism. Last year, the village obtained a special fund of 5 million yuan from the central government, which was used to renovate the houses of 50 households into the Bai ethnic style, so the village acquired a new look.
Xinyang Village is more confident to make strides on the road to rural revitalization due to its booming Red tourism. The village has vigorously developed green planting and ecological breeding, established a processing base for cured meat products, and continued to drive the development of tourism services, agricultural products sales, cured meat processing and other related industries, as well as promote the employment of villagers and increase their income. By the end of 2022, the “Red Army Experience Camp” in Xinyang Village has received more than 230,000 tourists.
As there are more tourists, more villagers are returning their home to start businesses. Liu Kaiquan, a 53-year-old villager, has been doing clothing business in Guangdong province for a long time. In 2017, the village’s tourism was booming, so she and her husband decided to go back to the village to raise pigs. Now they have become local famous pig farmers.
Liu Kaiquan recently sold more than 40 pigs with an income of more than 100,000 yuan. There are more than 100 little pigs in the pigsty.
Through the development of Red tourism, catering and breeding, the village’s collective income reached 350,000 yuan last year. In the past two years, the epidemic has affected the tourism income of the village, but the villager didn’t complain and sought ways for development by themselves. The red cultural industrial park to be completed in the village will become another tourist scenic area along with the memorial hall of the departure place of the Second Front Army of the Red Army and the former residence of He Long.
