The county now boasts two national nature reserves, one national forest park, one national prairie natural park, one national education base for patriotism, two major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level, one of the top 100 red tourism attractions in China, three national-level intangible cultural heritage items, two 4A-level tourist attractions, and one of the top 30 national red tourism routes.
He Long Memorial Hall

He Long Memorial Hall covers an area of 9,335 square meters in total with a floor area of 2,080 square meters. It displays He Long’s magnificent contributions to the Communist Party of China and the Red Army, successively honored with a national patriotism education base, a top 30 national red tourism route as well as a top 100 red tourism attraction.
He Long’s Former Residence
He Long’s Former Residence

The Former Residence of He Long lies at Longjiaguan Village in Sangzhi County of Zhangjiajie City, about a two-hour drive from the city center. It was restored to its original form in 1975, exhibiting as many as 185 photos and over 50 relics from different periods of He Long’s life. In front of the abode stands a time-honored bridge which was built in 1916 and then changed its name to He Long Bridge after the commander became famous. The wooden bridge features a quaint style and distinctive ethnic characteristics.
Monument to the Starting Point of Long March of the Second Front Red Army

As the only memorial hall that systematically showcases the great achievements made by the Second Front Red Army, the monument holds exhibitions of Joining Forces at Muhuang Town, Xiangxi Offensive, Expanding Hunan-Hubei-Sichuan Revolutionary Base Areas, Embarking on the Long March from Sangzhi County, Joining Forces in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and Final Army Junction at Jiangtai Fort.
The epic journey of the Party and Army during the Long March is revived through more than 280 pictures, over 140 relics (collected from the public or donated by descendants of soldiers of the Second Front Army), 7 sculptures, 8 scenes, a lot of large video and audio files, and a wealth of charts that are incredibly valuable to historical researches.

Sangzhi County is hailed as “the ocean of folk songs” by the music world, with the Tujia instrument performance (daliuzi) highly regarded by the West as “the best Oriental symphony”. Furthermore, it had its folk songs included in the first national intangible cultural heritage list in 2006 and was dubbed “the Hometown of Chinese Folk Songs” by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.

The Maoyan River, with a total length of over 50 kilometers, is renowned for its stunning canyon scenery. Here, we can not only appreciate the clear water of the Maoyan River, verdant mountains, tranquil valleys, perilous cliffs, peculiar rocks, and extraordinary caves but also immerse ourselves in the legendary tales of the Maogang headmen more than six hundred years ago, of Qin Hou, the leader of the Tujia tribe, who led a rebellion against the reign of the Ming dynasty, and of the local bandits in the past. We can also learn about the mysterious disappearance of the ancient Miao and Yao tribes and the colorful folk customs of ethnic minorities such as Tujia and Bai.
