Cultural tourism activities across Hunan for upcoming May Day holiday

Hunan Museum
The Mawangdui Han Tomb site will reopen to the public starting from May 1. During the May Day holiday, Hunan Museum will extend its opening hours to 20:00. It will launch free exhibitions such as “The Greeks: from Agamemnon to Alexander the Great”, “Everlasting Prayer—Statues and Beliefs in Manshan Cultural Area”, and “Fan Painting and Beyond”, and carry out activities pertaining to these exhibitions for students of different age groups and all visitors.

Changsha Window of the World
During the May Day holiday, Changsha Window of the World will hold the 8th International Street Art Festival, inviting citizens and tourists to embark on a unique art walk. A giant puppet panda will make its first appearance in Changsha.
There are also exciting activities such as dumb shows of street performers and drama performances on a bus.
Changsha Fantawild Oriental Heritage
In this scenic area, tourists can watch a fireworks show, participate in a China-Chic auspicious beast parade, soak up ethnic culture, and enjoy live-action performances like “Meng Jiangnyu” and “Qu Yuan” during the holiday. In addition, tourists forwarding the related tweets posted on the official WeChat account of “Changsha Fantawild Park” will have the opportunity to enjoy a free admission.
Tongguan Kiln Guofeng Park
The 5th Guofeng Fireworks Festival as well as the 2nd Chinese National Costume Culture Festival will be held at Tongguan Kiln Guofeng Park from now until May 5. During the festival, there will also be such activities as Chinese national costume shows, fish lantern parades, and themed ritual music performances.

Liuyang Sky Theater
From May 1 to May 2, the fourth season of “Fireworks Planet Fantasy Night” will be staged at the Liuyang Sky Theater in Liuyang City, at which the “colorful auspicious clouds” fireworks show created by the team responsible for the design and setting off of fireworks at the Changsha sub-venue of CCTV Spring Festival Gala in 2024 will be displayed for the first time after the gala. The team will also reproduce the stunning scenes like “Monet’s Sky Garden” and “Neon Lights in the Night Sky” in the fireworks display. Creative scenes such as “collision of planets” and “rose sea” will be presented by combining drone formation and fireworks performances, bringing the audience an unforgettable visual experience.
Tianhan Cultural Park
A national-style garden party will be held at Tianhan Cultural Park from May 1 to May 4, during which a series of activities will also be conducted, including national music shows, Hanfu flash mob dances, acrobatic performances, lion dances and pitch-pot. During the event, all exhibitions in the art street of the park will be open to the public for free.

A national Hanfu activity will be launched at the scenic area during the May Day holiday, allowing tourists to appreciate the beauty of historical and cultural heritage.

During the activity, tourists dressed in a full set of Hanfu (including headwear and Hanfu shoes) making an appointment through the official WeChat mini program can visit the Nanyue Temple and Shuilian Cave Scenic Area for free. Those who repost or share relevant videos or images on social media platforms with official topics can receive rewards such as cultural and creative products, free tickets, and cash based on their likes.

From May 1 to May 5, tourists can get a gift package by taking photos in front of six scenic spots like Shennong Hall, Holy Fire Platform, and Feixiang Pavilion in Hanfu and posting their photos on public platforms.

The second Folk Culture Festival as well as the final of Folk Performance Competition will be held at the park on May 3, when tourists can enjoy characteristic folk cultural performances, taste palatable Hakka specialty snacks, and attend fun games.

Tourists can also take selfies in front of painted streets, attend the color spraying game, and paint their faces. In addition, a highly challenging performance of “Fire Phoenix” will be staged in the night, with a fire phoenix spreading its wings and hovering over the pier.
