Qi Baishi International Culture and Art Festival to open in November
2023-10-19

As a renowned artist both in China and abroad, Qi Baishi excelled in poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving. He was awarded the title of “People’s Artist” in 1953 and was widely recognized as a “World Cultural Celebrity” in 1963.
The Qi Baishi International Culture and Art Festival has been successfully held for five sessions since its inception in 2004.
It has launched a large number of exquisite masterpieces and artistic activities, becoming a grand event to showcase the charm of calligraphy and painting art.
The theme of this year’s art festival is “Inheritance and Innovation.” It will feature four main events: the opening ceremony, the exhibition of Qi Baishi’s original works, the keynote speech, and the exhibition of Chinese freehand brushwork paintings.
Additionally, the festival will leverage technology to enhance artistic expression, and organize a Qi Baishi-themed light and shadow show and a digital exhibition.
The Qi Baishi Memorial Hall in Xiangtan City and the Xiangtan Museum will establish a digital multimedia Qi Baishi database exhibition system, presenting Qi Baishi’s chronological life, representative works, and research achievements about Qi Baishi in the past three decades.
One of the highlights of the festival is the opening ceremony, which breaks away from traditional forms of art performance.
Through the combination of art pieces and immersive digital projections, interactive installations, and light art, it creatively interprets the paintings of the master Qi Baishi, showcasing the harmonious integration of Baishi’s art with technology and the spirit of Xiangtan.
This year’s art festival will promote the exchange and mutual learning between Qi Baishi’s culture and international cultural arts. Experts and artists from both domestic and international communities will be invited to participate in the event, facilitating the collision and blending of different cultures, and spreading Qi Baishi’s culture and Hunan culture to the international stage.
