Hengyang sees rise in cultural and tourism market during May Day holiday

According to statistics, 22 tourist attractions in Hengyang City received a total of 937,800 visitors and achieved a revenue of 801 million yuan from May 1 to 5. Among them, Nanyue Mount Heng received a total of 567,600 tourists, an increase of 15.18% compared to the same period last year, setting a new historical high.
On May 1, many young men and women dressed in Hanfu, with folding fans in their hands, strolled through the Mount Heng Scenic Area.
The scenic area launched the National-style Hanfu event, and tourists wearing Hanfu could visit four major scenic spots including Nanyue Temple and Central Scenic Area for free.
On the same day, in the Cai Lun Bamboo Scenic Area of Leiyang City, the hometown of the paper inventor Cai Lun, a tourist from Guangdong Province experienced papermaking and said that it’s interesting to see how to turn bamboo into a piece of paper.
On the site, tourists could experience the process of making paper under the guidance of representative inheritors.
Tourists, with their sleeves up, put a tool into the paper pulp, saw the layers of bamboo fibers attach to the tool, and ultimately turned them into thin, soft and delicate paper.
Besides, the 2024 Hengyang Electronic Music Festival as well as the National Consumption Festival was launched at the Wanda Plaza in Zhengxiang District on the evening of May 1. Well-known electronic music DJs were invited to play discs, and multiple famous streamers did live stream on the site, allowing the audience to experience the charm of electronic music online and offline.
“Yumu Mountain is the ‘backyard’ and ‘urban green lung’ of Hengyang. It’s a good place for leisure, hiking, and seeking blessings,” said a tourist, who climbed Yumu Mountain with friends after rain on May 5.
According to an official of the culture and tourism department of Hengyang, during this year’s May Day holiday, rural tourism has become a main choice for tourists in Hengyang due to its short distance, slow leisure, and high quality.
The Shuangshuiwan Ocean Park in Zhuhui District opened to the public on May 1. Tourists could not only experience simulated beaches, waves, and sea breezes, but also enjoy eight themed activities such as light shows and fireworks waterfalls in the park.
The Plum Blossom Park Scenic Area in Hengyang County launched more than 20 amusement projects, including mountain off-road vehicles, ice and snow kingdoms, and observation towers. It also created a naked eye 9D starry sky pavilion, allowing visitors to embark on an adventure by riding special aircraft without VR equipment.
The second rural parent-child festival of Hengnan County kicked off at the Qingquan Farmer Countryside Complex which includes a parent-child agricultural garden, a joyful zoo, a romantic starry sky campsite, and characteristic homestay inns.
In the leisure base of Lingguanmiao Village, Shigu District, villagers created a number of entertainment projects, such as Internet-famous swing bridge, glass slide, colorful slide, sand motorcycle and parent-child amusement park, in a bid to create a popular “Disneyland” in the countryside.
In addition, rural delicacies in Hengyang such as noodles with brine, crispy mooncakes, and sausages also received high praise from tourists.
