‘Our Festivals—Dragon Boat Festival’ themed cultural event held in Miluo
2024-06-12

Numerous people gathered on both sides of the Miluo River, watching dragon boat races, tasting zongzi, and enjoying a cultural feast.
Miluo is the place where Qu Yuan spent his later years and died. It’s known as the “origin of the Dragon Boat Festival, home to dragon boasts, and cradle of poetry”.
For more than 2,300 years, the dragon boat culture has been passed down from generation to generation in Miluo. Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival through dragon boat races has become a cultural event shared by Chinese all over the world and a common spiritual symbol.
Various art performances were staged at the launching ceremony, including folk dances of Chu State, poetry chanting with Guqin, and festive dances.
Dragon Boat Festival is the first festival selected as the world intangible cultural heritage in China. Yueyang City will take this event as an opportunity to give play to the unique characteristics of the dragon boat culture, and vigorously develop the culture, tourism and sports industries.

Efforts will be made to hold the first National Teenagers’ Football, Basketball and Volleyball Competitions, the fourth World Cup Dragon Boat Race and the provincial tourism development conference, so as to make contributions to building a Chinese-style and modern Hunan.
The China Miluo River Dragon Boat Super League kicked off on that day, with 20 teams competing on four traditional 500-meter straight tracks.
Other activities like a symposium on Duanwu culture inheritance and Chinese civilization, Duanwu intangible cultural heritage themed shows and Duanwu folk customs experience activities were held.
This event is an important measure to revitalize traditional Chinese festivals, promote excellent traditional Chinese culture, continuously enrich the spiritual and cultural life of the people, and build a shared spiritual home for the Chinese nation. It’s also a vivid practice of promoting the high-quality development of Hunan culture, speeding up to realize the blueprint of “Three Hubs and Four New Missions” and building a beautiful and prosperous Yueyang City.
