Thinking Platform

From 1913 to 1918, young Mao Zedong attended the First Normal School of Hunan Province. In order to find the truth of saving the country and the people, Mao often swam across the Xiangjiang River with his classmates and carried out various activities on Orange Isle. He often stood on the island, thinking about how to change the old world and establish a new China. Eventually, Mao’s wishes came true. Thinking Platform was thus built out of this reason.

The 100-Meter Fountain can spout water 100 meters into the air which is equivalent to the height of 30 floors. Every major holiday or event, residents of Changsha, who stand on Xiaoxiang Avenue and Xiangjiang Avenue along the both sides of Xiangjiang River, can see the water spouts in front of the main gate of the Orange Isle Scenic Area.

The Beach Park covers an area of some 0.133 square kilometers. It is home to China’s first water sports park in a city center, which is divided into two parts, outdoor sports and indoor sports areas. There are two squares in the Beach Park: one is the beach square and the other is the natural grass sports square. Other units in the park are built around these two squares.

Based on the image of Mao Zedong in his youth, Mao Zedong’s Statue, which is the largest landscape project in Orange Isle, highlights Mao’s youthfulness and great ambition. The statue was constructed in 2007, with a total height of 32 meters, a length of 83 meters, and a width of 41 meters.
The statue uses a reinforced concrete frame-shear structure and granite stones as its exterior materials. Young Mao Zedong once wrote in his poem right here: “I ask, on this boundless land, who rules over man's destiny?”

Covering an area of 14.2 hectares, the Orange Isle Park owns River Viewing Pavilion and some tourist corridors. There is also a grand white marble monument, on which there are two seal cuttings: four Chinese characters Ju Zi Zhou Tou (Orange Isle) and a classical Chinese poem Qinyuan Chun-Changsha, which was written by Mao Zedong in 1925.
