By the year of 2014, more than 850 species of woody plants and over 400 species of wild animals had been found in the geopark. Due to geologic changes, the area where Zhangjiajie Geopark is located was not completely covered by continental glaciers during the Quaternary glacial period, thus becoming a refuge for those plants, allowing many relict plants to survive. The area has become one of the most representative natural heritage sites in the Chinese flora. By 2014, 57 species of national protected plants had been seen like Chinese drove tree, pseudotaxus and douglas fir.
Thanks to a vertical zoning of plants, complete communities and a stable and balanced ecology, a good habitat has been provided for wild animals, like the national protected animals, clouded leopards and zibets, making it a paradise for them.
Zhangjiajie UNESCO Global Geopark is a complete ecosystem composed of different parts like Tianzi Scene, Yangjiajie Scene and Huanglong Cave. Mountains, waters, bridges, caves and waterfalls all make the park a rare natural museum and tourist resort for visitors.
