Laosicheng Site, previously called Fushi City, is a national 4A scenic area and a key cultural relic unit under national-level protection that sits by the Lingxi River east of Yongshun County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. Founded in the fifth year of Shaoxing (AD1135) in the Southern Song Dynasty, it served as the political, economic and cultural center of the Tujia ethnic group in the mountainous area of Southwest China during the reign of Tusi. (Tusi, often translated as “headmen” or “chieftains”, were hereditary tribal leaders recognized as imperial officials by the top rulers in ancient China)



As the most complete, largest and time-honored ancient Tusi capital site that has been discovered so far, Laosicheng Site was rated as one of the “2010 National Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries” and known as “Machu Picchu of China”.

In 2015, it was included in the UNESCO world heritage list as one of the three Tusi sites in China.
