Mt. Lu Scenic Area

Located on the west bank of the Xiangjiang River, Mt. Lu Scenic Area with an area of 5.28 square kilometers is one of the core scenic spots of Mt. Yuelu Scenic Area. A management office was set up for this urban mountain scenic spot in 1951.

There are 977 kinds of plants in Mt. Yuelu, where ancient and precious trees thrive, such as yew plum pine in the Jin Dynasty, ginkgo in the Tang Dynasty, camphor tree in the Song and Yuan Dynasties as well as maple chestnuts in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Mt. Yuelu has 15 key cultural relics at provincial-level protection or above, and is the place where many martyrs and famous people are laid to rest.
With the Yuelu Academy at the foot, the Ancient Lushan Temple at the halfway, and the Yunlu Taoist Palace on the mountaintop, Mt. Yuelu is considered as an area where Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism intermingle.

Aiwan Pavilion

The original name of Aiwan Pavilion was Hongye Pavilion or Aifeng Pavillion. After Changsha was twinned with Kagoshima in Japan, Aiwan Pavilion considered as a symbol of ancient Changsha was replicated in Kagoshima in honor of the lasting friendship between China and Japan.
Yuelu Academy

As one of the four most prestigious academies in ancient China, Yuelu Academy has been well preserved among the existing ancient academies.

Yuelu Academy covers an area of 21,000 square meters, and most of the existing buildings are relics of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In addition to architecture, Yuelu Academy is also famous for a large number of inscriptions on stone tablets and plaques. Its ancient buildings are divided into five major parts for teaching, book collection, sacrificial offering, garden, and memorial.
Lushan Temple

Lushan Temple, also known as Huiguang Temple or Wanshou Temple, was built on the hillside of Mt. Yuelu. The Maitreya Hall, the main shrine hall and the Guanyin Pavilion are orderly arranged, with dining halls on the two sides, making the temple majestic and magnificent. The unique greening design in the temple is a perfect complement to the pleasant scenery outside the temple.
Former Site of Xinmin Society
Xinmin Society was a progressive society with great influence in Hunan during the May 4th Movement in 1919, with the aim of “transforming China and the world” and spreading Marxist ideas. Mao Zedong and Cai Hesen were both members of the society.

The Former Site of the Xinmin Society is located at Xinmin Road, Yingwanzhen, Changsha City, west of the north gate of Mt. Yuelu. It was listed as a cultural relic unit under provincial-level protection in 1983, and rebuilt in 1987 according to the original appearance.

The core area of the site is about 5,000 square meters, which is a farmhouse in the Qing Dynasty with grey tiles and surrounded by bamboo hedge and camphor tress.
