2023-04-06

Yueyang Tower stands at the head of the ancient West Gate of Yueyang City, facing the Dongting Lake and the Yangtze River, with a magnificent momentum. Its predecessor was the military parade tower of Lu Su, a general of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms Period, with a history of nearly 1,800 years.

Yueyang Tower flourished in the Tang Dynasty and the Song Dynasty, and has undergone an evolution from military building to a city gate building to an ornamental building. Before the Tang Dynasty, it mainly played a functional role in the military operation. Since then, Yueyang Tower has gradually become the favorite of literati and scholars, as well as a cultural holy land.
Climbing to the top floor of the tower, you can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the grand Dongting Lake, with boats and tourists passing by, and the willow trees on the shore swaying in the wind.
Xiao Qiao’s Tomb is located in the park, where there are also such scenic spots as Huaifu Hall, the models of Yueyang Tower featuring the styles unique to five different dynasties, and the memorial temple in memory of Fan Zhongyan and Teng Zijing.
