The new Chenzhou Museum started its trial operation on September 16, 2023, showcasing precious cultural relics, including Qianjiaping white potteryware, Western Zhou bronze cymbals, Guimenling silk fabrics, Western Jin bamboo slips, Shilangtan cliff carvings, Ming and Qing ancient residences, ancestral halls, and ancient theatrical stages, allowing citizens and tourists to immerse themselves in Chenzhou’s 10,000-year historical culture and learn about the past and present of Chenzhou.
Chenzhou Museum, a national second-class museum, is a youth education base in Hunan Province, as well as a patriotic education base and a science popularization base in Chenzhou City. It has a total area of about 14,000 square meters and an exhibition area of 5,000 square meters. It has a collection of more than 10,000 cultural relics, including over 1,000 precious ones.
There are two basic exhibitions: the Chenzhou Historical and Cultural Exhibition and the Chenzhou Modern and Contemporary Important Historical Events Exhibition. More than 1,000 cultural relics are exhibited, with Qianjiaping white potteryware, some Western Jin bamboo slips, and Guimenling silk fabrics displayed for the first time.
“We have been promoting the revitalization and utilization of cultural relics, and have successively launched activities such as VR fun treasure hunting, calligraphy experience, archaeological experience, potteryware DIY, and bamboo slips calligraphy seminars to attract tourists from all over the world. This year, we have received 135,000 visitors,” said Zheng Yanqing, curator of Chenzhou Museum.
Museums embody the development of national spirits and civilization. It has become a consensus at Chenzhou Museum to make young people the protectors and inheritors of culture.
“Next, we will also offer courses on museums in schools, attracting students to visit Chenzhou Museum, know more about the cultural relics of Chenzhou, spread the history and culture of Chenzhou, appreciate the profound Chinese culture, and establish cultural confidence,” said Zheng Yanqing.
Besides, the construction of the publicity team will be strengthened, and the cooperation with schools will be deepened to cultivate a new generation who can inherit fine traditional Chinese culture and shoulder the responsibility of national rejuvenation.
