Banliang Ancient Village

Banliang Ancient Village is located in the northwest of Gaoting Town, Yongxing County, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province. Boasting a history of more than 600 years, it was first built in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty, and then prospered in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is a clan settlement in southern Hunan where people in the whole village are descendants of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty, who ruled the empire from 141 to 87 BC.

Banliang Ancient Village covers an area of 2.4 square kilometers with a population of 1,651. It is a natural village with 19 villager groups and 446 households. The villagers mainly grow grain and cured tobacco for a living.

It is hailed as the “First Ancient Village in southern Hunan” for its large scale, well-preserved condition, good Feng Shui and profound cultural heritage. It contains the ancient Chinese patriarchal rites, Confucian traditions, Chinese geomancy (Feng Shui), philosophy, architectural skills, ecological principles, etc. It was rated as one of the characteristic tourist villages, national AAA tourist attraction and famous historical and cultural village in Hunan Province.
