Kaifu District will improve the identification facilities for cultural attractions, produce online tour guide videos, and invite citizens, tourists, especially families, to visit Wenchang Pavilion online and offline.
Chen Xianshu, a librarian of the Hunan Provincial Institute of Culture and History and a professor at the Changsha University Cultural Research Institute, told the historical story of Wenchang Pavilion to enhance people’s awareness of the route.
Chen introduced that the Wenchang Temple site is located at No.89 Wenchangge Street. It was an academy architectural complex of ancient Changsha County. It was first built in 1611, with a history of 400 years. It’s also the only remaining relic of the four major Wenchang temples in Changsha and has important historical and cultural value.
The route starts from the flower hall of Wenchang Pavilion, passes through the Li Bingchu’s Mansion, Sun Changjun’s Mansion, Ren Bangzhu’s Mansion and Ren Liqing’s Mansion, allowing tourists to experience the charm of important historical sites and representative buildings in modern times.

At the same time, tourists can revisit the important relics of old Changsha’s industrial and theatrical culture. The route connects industrial and commercial sites such as the Hefeng Matchstick Company, Xinhua Printing Factory, a coal shop and a light chemical machinery factory, as well as cultural venues including the organ hall and Changsha Puppet Theater.
In the 1950s, Mao Zedong listened to opera at the Changsha Puppet Theater. Walking on the street, you can enjoy a profound sense of history.
To maintain the long-lasting popularity of this cultural tourism street, a volunteer service team has been built to provide residents and tourists with professional volunteer services like cultural tourism guidance and environmental protection.
