3rd National Flower-drum Opera Performance kicks off

The performance includes a variety of operas like flower-drum opera, tea-leaf picking opera, Huadeng opera, and folk song opera from cities and provinces such as Changsha, Hengyang, Zixing, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, and Yunnan.
The performance activities consist of several sections, including the performance of excellent plays, the performance of traditional and modern operas, and “Voice of Great Men”—Mao Zedong’s Poetry Symphony Concert.
The performance works feature 10 ancient and modern plays with a wide range of themes and styles, including the Changsha flower-drum operas “The True Story of a School Master” and “Pig Commandant”, the Jingzhou flower-drum opera “Red Lotus”, and the Hengzhou flower-drum opera “Striking Iron”.
As the representative play of Changsha flower-drum opera, “The True Story of A School Master” was first staged at the opening ceremony and received continuous applause and high praise from the audience. The performance was also live-streamed online and attracted millions of viewers.
During the performance, activities such as observation of operas, discussions on plays, and annual conference of Chinese modern opera will also be carried out. National experts will gather in Changsha to exchange ideas and comment on the inheritance and development of flower-drum opera nationwide, jointly contributing suggestions for the revitalization, inheritance, and promotion of fine traditional Chinese culture.
