23rd Shimen Citrus Festival opens

Shimen is renowned as the “Hometown of Citrus in China” and the “First County for Early-maturing Honey Oranges in China”.
After 23 years of careful nurturing and relentless efforts, the Shimen Citrus Festival has developed into a grand and influential national event, serving as an important platform to promote the development of Shimen Citrus and the cultural tourism industry, as well as facilitate Shimen’s external exchanges and development.
Shimen County will seize the opportunity of the successful hosting of the Citrus Festival to accelerate the high-quality development of characteristic industries such as citrus and tea, and make greater contributions to the creation of a 100-billion-yuan deep processing industry cluster of agricultural products in the city.
In recent years, Changde has implemented the special action to accelerate rural revitalization, and promoted the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.
By tailoring development strategies to local conditions, the city has cultivated a number of advantageous industries and high-quality brands represented by Shimen Citrus, Hanshou Soft-shelled Turtles, and Lixian Grapes.
It has also fostered 110 leading agricultural industrialization enterprises at the national and provincial levels, represented by Xiangjia Animal Husbandry. In 2022, the output value of the city’s deep processing industry of agricultural products reached 80 billion yuan.
This year’s Citrus Festival is not only a sweet feast to taste delicious oranges and share the fruits of development but also a splendid platform for deepening exchanges, promoting industrial upgrading, and a significant action to boost confidence and expand consumer demand.
Currently, Shimen has 450,000 mu (about 30,000 hectares) of citrus industry and over 370 specialized citrus cooperatives. The purpose of hosting this festival is to make the brand of Shimen Citrus shine brighter, and increase farmers’ income from Shimen Citrus.
