Exhibition of ‘The Greeks: Agamemnon to Alexander the Great’ opens
2023-12-21

The exhibition features a total of 270 pieces or sets of cultural relics from 14 museums and cultural institutions in Greece, including gold ware, bronze ware, porcelain and sculptures, spanning a period of 7,000 years.
The exhibition is divided into seven sections arranged chronologically, which allow visitors to explore different eras in the development of ancient Greek civilization. And these artifacts illustrate pivotal moments in Greek politics, economy and culture from prehistory to the Hellenistic age.
“We planned this exhibition to promote the exchanges and mutual learning of civilizations. The eastern civilization of China and the western Greek civilization have similarities in different time and space. So we tried our best to incorporate this concept in this exhibition.” Shu Lili, a research curator and executive curator at Hunan Museum, said that it’s the first time in Hunan Museum and even in China to hold such a comprehensive exhibition to showcase ancient Greek civilization.
It’s worth mentioning that in the exhibition hall, the China-Greece timeline events in the same dimension are presented to help the public better understand the historical development of ancient Greece and the long-standing friendship between China and Greece.
At the same time, a large number of Greek elements are used to create a visiting atmosphere. The exhibition hall also has scenes of the Battle of Sparta, providing an immersive experience for the public.
“I am already very interested in ancient Greek civilization. The warrior metal helmet in this exhibition has a strong visual impact and immediately caught my attention. I have already imagined scenes of brave warriors defending their country in my mind,” a tourist from Hubei province, said excitedly.
The exhibition is available until May 18, 2024 in the Special Exhibition Hall 2 on the first floor of the Hunan Museum.
