2024-02-09

At present, Changsha has a total of 9 national ICH items, 44 provincial-level ICH items, and 132 municipal-level ICH items, involving vibrant folk cultures, authentic local skills, and well-known regional customs.
As an important resource for the construction of modern urban civilization, more and more intangible cultural heritage items in Changsha have been integrated into people’s daily life and become consumable cultural and creative products.
The recommended list for the integrated development of ICH and Tourism in Hunan Province was released recently, and the Changsha Tongguan Kiln and Liuyang Fireworks ICH tourism projects made the list.
In 2022, the Liuyang Sky Theater, with an investment of 90 million yuan, was completed.
The immersive fireworks show was launched every Saturday in 2023, attracting more than 100,000 tourists each show. It drove cultural and tourism consumption of more than 30 million yuan and had more than 80 million posts on Douyin.
At the same time, more citizens and tourists can experience the ICH thanks to the inheritance and protection of ICH. At the Changsha ICH Exhibition Hall, which integrates learning, performances, display, and document preservation, inheritors provide training every weekend. On December 22, 2023, a branch of the Changsha ICH Exhibition Hall opened in a primary school, displaying intangible cultural heritage in Changsha of various levels and types for children.
On December 27, 2023, the third batch of national tourism and leisure blocks was announced, and Chaozong Street was on the list. The National Photography Exhibition as well as the Intangible Cultural Heritage Forum and the 2023 Tourism Food Promotion Event were held here. Besides, there are multiple intangible cultural heritage art and culture exhibition halls and public cultural activity tourism spaces in Chaozong Street, attracting many visitors.
On December 24, 2023, Cai Er Teahouse, located in the Chinese folk paintings creation base in Luohanzhuang Village, Laodaohe Subdistrict, Kaifu District, opened. As a representative inheritance place of the Hunan provincial-level intangible cultural heritage “Changsha Nursery Rhymes” and Changsha’s first old style teahouse, it will set a new model for teahouse experience space in Changsha.
As one of the projects for the integrated development of ICH and tourism in China, Yuhua ICH Folk Art Characteristic Block integrates ICH performances, ICH handicraft experience, and ICH cuisine into its night market, boosting the nighttime economic development of Changsha.
Changsha is trying to provide consumers of intangible cultural heritage with a sense of satisfaction and happiness.
On the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day of 2023, a summer ICH market was held in a square of Changsha Riverside Cultural Park, with 500,000 yuan of cultural and tourism consumption vouchers distributed in 5 days, driving online and offline cultural tourism consumption of nearly 10 million yuan.

To further strengthen the overall regional protection of ICH, Changsha has introduced the “Management Measures for Changsha Cultural and Ecological Protection Areas”.
“We will further implement practical measures to protect cultural heritage, and bring cultural relics to life. Meanwhile, we will promote the organic integration of culture, urban space, and ecological resources by optimizing historical and cultural blocks, constructing operation and management mechanisms, and introducing historical and cultural resources,” Yi Ying, deputy minister of the Publicity Department of the Changsha Municipal Party Committee.
