Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs is a treasure trove of silk cultural relics, with two plain unlined gauze gowns unearthed from No.1 Tomb.
“The straight-front plain unlined gauze gown has a length of 128 centimeters, and an outside sleeve length of 190 centimeters, weighing 49 grams. The curving-front plain unlined gauze gown has a total length of 160 centimeters, an outside sleeve length of 195 centimeters, and a weight of 48 grams,” said Yu Yanjiao, director and research librarian of the Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs and Collection Research and Exhibition Center.
Yu Yanjiao introduced that although the fabric of the two plain unlined gauze gowns is the same, the cuffs and collars are made of different materials.
Other precious cultural relics like T-shaped painting on silk from Xin Zhui’s tomb, hand-crocheted clothing and floss silk padded robe with lozenge patterns will also be showcased, with most of them presented for the first time.
The exhibition will last from June 15 to October 7.
