The second “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreigners across the Globe - Storytelling Contest was held in the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Scenic Area. 49 contestants from 37 countries shared their wonderful stories in China in fluent Chinese on the glass bridge of the scenic area, spreading Chinese culture to the world.
On the day, the contestants tasted vine tea, sang folk songs, recited poems, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery at the scenic area to experience the charm of Zhangjiajie’s magnificent landscapes and profound culture, promoting the cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.

A contestant from South Korea said that he has learned many Chinese songs, and his favorite Chinese song is “I Love You, China”. He sang the song on the site for tourists.
“I heard of the glass bridge in the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon and the unique sandstone pillars and peaks in Zhangjiajie a long time ago. Even if I had psychological expectations, I was still astonished here. I will bring my family and friends to visit here in the future,” said a contestant from Madagascar.
The storytelling contest has not only provided a stage for foreign Chinese learners to share stories in Chinese, but also allowed them to make many like-minded friends and gain valuable memories during the competition. A student from Serbia said that they came here because of Chinese and gathered here because of the beautiful scenery. They have established a deep friendship because of the companion along the way. She expressed gratitude for this opportunity.

“The more you get in touch with Chinese culture, the more you like it. Chinese culture is so romantic and creative like this glass bridge,” said a contestant from Egypt.
According to the staff of the scenic area, the Yuntiandu Glass Bridge was built in 2016. The construction process was bumpy, which took nearly 10 years. After listening to the story of the bridge, the contestants sincerely exclaimed, “This bridge, crossing the canyon and connecting the east and west, records the national spirit of the Chinese people who dare to be the first. It reflects the wisdom and responsibility of a great country, shocking the world.”

“Now, Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Scenic Area has attracted tourists from all over the world. They have brought different national cultures, enhanced the exchange and integration of Chinese culture with those of other countries, and promoted Zhangjiajie’s stories and Chinese culture to the world,” said the head of the scenic area.
So far, the scenic area has received tourists form more than 130 countries and regions, and has welcomed more than 400,000 foreign tourists this year.
