Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

Wulingyuan Scenic Area has been renowned for its unique mountains, deep valleys, and luxuriant forests. There are more than 3,000 jagged peaks and pillars magnificent in shape and vivid in form. Between the peaks lie ravines and gorges with streams. The main attractions are Huangshi Village, the Golden Whip Stream, Yuanjiajie, Yangjiajie, etc.
Yuanjiajie
Yuanjiajie is located in the northern foothills of Shandaogou, a mountain mainly made of quartz. From the left side of Zicao Pool of the Golden Whip Stream, tourists can pass by Shandaogou and head for Yuanjiajie from which tourists can also head for Tianzi Mountain and Yangjiajie.
Walking on the edge of Yuanjiajie, tourists can reach the Great Bridge which stretches about 50 meters. The breadth and thickness of the bridge are three and five meters respectively. It was built at a height of almost 400 meters. The Great Bridge and the Couple Stone are two must-goes in Zhangjiajie.
Tianzi Mountain was named after Xiangwangtianzi, a name Xiang Dakun, a rebel leader in the Ming Dynasty. As one of the four great spots of Wulingyuan District, the mountain stands on the top of the “golden triangle” at an altitude of 534 meters (Shilan Valley) to 1,262.5 meters (Kunlun Hill), bordering Suoxi Valley on the east, Zhangjiajie on the south, and Sangzhi County on the north.
Golden Whip Stream
As the major scenic spot in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the Golden Whip Stream extends for 5,710 meters . It is named after the Golden Whip Rock by which it flows. Along the stream is the most stunning scenery in Wulingyuan District. Entering Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, tourists can find the entrance to the Golden Whip Stream after they walk head about 300 meters. The noteworthy scenic spots include Zuiluohan, Shenyinghubian, and Qianlixianghui.
Yangjiajie
With its total area of 3,400 hectares, Yangjiajie is located in the northwest of Wulingyuan Scenic Area, bordering Zhangjiajie on the east and Tianzi Mountain on the north. Yangjiajie boasts more than 200 scenic spots within three parts which are the Xiangzhi Stream, Longquan Valley, and Monkey Valley. The management center is situated in Zhonghu Village, 43 kilometers away from the urban area of Zhangjiajie City.
The landforms of Yangjiajie include quartz, sandstone, mountains, and valleys. Yibudengtian, the highest peak in Yangjiajie, is 1,130 meters above sea level. With the forest coverage rate reaching 95%, the vegetation here is thick. The Xiangzhi Stream and Longquan Valley have been developed into small scenic spots. There are 2.5 kilometers long of roads for vehicles. Among over 200 scenic spots, Longquan Waterfall is the most renowned. It is said that Yangjiajie used to be the habitation of General Yang’s offspring because General Yang stayed here for a very long time to annihilate the army led by Xiangwangtianzi.
Wulong Stockaded Village
Wulong Stockaded Village is the best place in Yangjiazhai for adventurous tourists who would dare to get in the mountain holes or walk cautiously on the cracks and the face. Situated at an altitude of more than 300 meters, the stockaded village is surrounded by stonewalls, only to be reached through a 1,000-meter trail along which many barricades are built. With a breadth of less than 1 meter, the trail cannot be passed with people walking shoulder to shoulder. After the trail, tourists will pass a narrow stone hole with a length of 30 meters and a breadth of half a meter. On top of that there is a gap with a breadth of less than half a meter.
Yaozi Stockaded Village
With a total area of 12 square kilometers, Yaozi Stockaded Village has been designated to be a place to produce works for the Photographer Association of Hunan Province. In addition, it’s a national outdoor sports camp for teenagers and one of the top choices for foreign tourists and road trip tourists. Yaozi Stockaded Village, also called Jiegong Mountain, is situated in the southeast of the national forest park. Yaozi is the Chinese for the kidney. The stockaded village is 1,050 meters above sea level. It was built on a 1,400-meter-long and 100-meter-wide ridge. On the west, east, and north, the stockaded village sees stonewalls higher than 300 meters. Tourists can visit scenic spots including Tianqiao and Cengyanyongta.
