Goulou Peak is one of the 72 Nanyue Peaks, covering a total area of 2,067 hectares with a height of 1,106 meters. As a 3A scenic area and a national forest park, 95% of its land is covered by forest. Located in the northern suburbs of Hengyang City, the Goulou Peak is surrounded by hills and peaks. The trees here are great in variety with a total number of over 500 species, including 10 rare species in China. There are also a number of cultural relics like Yuwangdian and Yuwangbei.

Goulou Peak National Forest Park is hailed as the “gene bank” in southern Hunan. It boasts over 1,000 mu (about 66.6 hectares) of secondary forest rare in Hunan as well as more than 1,000 species of animals and plants. In the park we can see the famous Cyclocarya paliurus (a symbol of milch cow in China), the “living fossils” like ginkgo and metasequoia, Castanopsis Fagaceae, Reevesia pubescens and many wild animals including boars, roebucks, muntjacs, deer, foxes and cuckoos.

Goulou Peak National Forest Park is abundant in both natural and cultural resources. The magnificent and beautiful scenery, unique geology and landform as well as a profound cultural heritage of history and religion all represent its charm and attraction.
