Biancheng Chadong Scenic Area rated as national 4A tourist attraction

With “The Border Town” written by Chinese writer Shen Congwen as the cultural support, Biancheng Chadong Scenic Area strives to build a livable, characteristic, cultural and ethnic town through developing its rich cultural resources.
On August 15, 2022, Biancheng Chadong Scenic Area was opened to the public after quality improvement.
At present, there are such main scenic spots as the stilted buildings with Xiangxi characteristics, Tianhe Water Street, Cuicui Isle and Shen Congwen’s Former Residence.
In recent years, a special working team has been organized to promote the construction of the cultural and tourism industry of Huayuan County. And guidelines were issued to promote the high-quality development of the cultural and tourism industry of the county.
Huayuan County’s cultural tourism industry is flourishing. Aizhai-Shibadong-Dehang Grand Canyon Scenic Area was rated as a national 5A scenic area. Furthermore, the Gumiao River Grand Canyon was selected as a national 3A tourist attraction and Biancheng Chadong Scenic Area was rated as a national 4A tourist attraction.
There are mountains, waters, caves, waterfalls, ancient villages and old sites in Huayuan County. As an important part of Xiangxi World Geopark, the county is renowned as the hometown of the Miao ethnic group, hometown of Chinese folk culture and art, as well as a national research base for Chiyou culture (Chiyou was a tribal leader of the ancient Jiuli tribe).

The county has the world’s intangible cultural heritage—Ganqiu, six national intangible cultural heritage items like the Miao medicine, the Miao drum dance and the Miao embroidery, 13 provincial-level, 180 prefectural and county-level intangible cultural heritage protection projects, and 31 traditional Chinese villages.
