Songya Lake National Wetland Park

According to the national policy of “turning marginal farmland to forests and lakes”, Changsha County started the project to turn Tuanjie protective embankments into the lake at the end of 2008. In 2016, the Songya Lake won the approval of the State Forestry Administration and became a national wetland park. In April 2019, the Songya Lake was awarded as the “Beautiful Lake of the Yangtze River Economic Belt”, the only lake in Hunan Province to win this honor.
There are 216 species of wetland plants and 117 species of wetland vertebrates with two national first-class protected plants, five national second-class protected plants and seven national second-class protected wild animals.
The plan of “one core, five axes and eight zones”, namely to set up five ecological landscape axes and eight urban functional zones with the Songya Lake as its core. The lake, as a whole, is full of natural beauty and humanity.

The Songya Lake is a typical representative of shallow lake wetland ecosystem after the implementation of the project of “turning marginal farmland to lakes in the Dongting Lake”. It is one of the wetland ecosystems restored by artificial intervention with its own typical and unique characteristics.
There are 216 species of wetland plants and 117 species of wetland vertebrates with two national first-class protected plants, five national second-class protected plants and seven national second-class protected wild animals.

The project for the Songya Lake includes the construction of the Songya Lake National Wetland Park and Songya New City. The Songya Lake National Wetland Park, with a total planned area of 7,345 mu, is designed by Australian GHD Company.
