As the capital of Hunan Province and the provincial center of politics, economy, culture, education and trade, Changsha is an indispensable city along the “Belt and Road” and the central city of the Yangtze River Economic Zone. In 2020, permanent residents of Changsha exceeded 10 million and its GDP reached 1.2 trillion yuan.
Included in the first batch of National Historical and Cultural Cities, Changsha is known as “hometown of Qu Yuan and Jia Yi” and “famous city in Chu State and Han Dynasty”. Changsha is also the cradle of Modernization Movement, Old Democratic Revolution and New Democratic Revolution, and hometown of famous revolutionists, including Huang Xing, Cai E and Liu Shaoqi.
Changsha is blessed with picturesque natural landscape. There are Mount Yuelu, Xiangjiang River and Orange Isle. Changsha is among the first batch of Top Tourist Cities of China, National Forest Cities and National Garden Cities. It ranks the first in the central China and the fifth across the country in terms of Eco-Civilization Index (ECI).
Changsha is an innovative city with advanced science and education. There are dozens of colleges and universities including National University of Defense Technology, Central South University and Hunan University. World-class research achievements like super hybrid rice, Tianhe-2 Supercomputer and 3D printing were created here.
