Hengyang City is located to the south of Mount Heng and renowned as the Wild Goose City. It has 5 counties (Hengnan, Hengyang, Hengshan, Hengdong and Qidong), 2 county-level cities (Leiyang and Changning) and 5 districts (Nanyue, Yanfeng, Zhuhui, Shigu, and Zhengxiang) under its administration.
Occupying the major crossroad towards north and south, Hengyang enjoys a favorable location and convenient transportation. As one of the 45 highway hubs in China, the city serves as a logistics center in the country and regional central city in northern South China.
Mount Hengshan is one of the first 5A scenic areas in China, known as “the most beautiful one among the Five Mountains”. It is a religious site for both Buddhism and Taoism. Plus its diversified landscapes, the mountain becomes a tourist attraction integrating sightseeing, exploration, summer resort, as well as a holy place to worship Buddha and pray for longevity and wealth.
Hengyang is known as “the hometown of non-ferrous metals and non-metallic minerals”. There are more than 60 kinds of minerals, including gold, silver, copper, iron, plumbum, zinc, coal, rock salt, kaolin, albite, etc. Among them, its reserves of albite tops in Asia. Besides, the kaolin reserve is among the largest in the country and the rock salt reserve ranks first in South China. Additionally, Hengyang is the only producer of borax in South China.
